Message from the President
Girish Deshpande, 2023 OAO President

Hello to all my esteemed colleagues and hope you are enjoying the unusually warm winter we are experiencing. As promised, here is the first of the bimonthly ( every 2 months) e-bulletin to keep the membership informed as to what we the executives are working on currently. It’s been a hectic time at the OAO since our last fall business meeting and a number of items are on the action plan agenda.

	We have successfully completed our first annual sponsorship drive and we continue to engage more. The annual goal of $50,000 has been achieved and we are hoping for more! This will keep our organization financially sound for years to come. Please visit our Partners whose logos can be found on our website – www.oao.on.ca as well as at the bottom of this bulletin.
	We are brainstorming to get the expanded duties for dental assistants and hygienists further improved. We are actively engaged with AAO and ODA to spearhead this campaign.
	Shortage of auxiliary staff is a major concern and OAO is working hard to make licensing and educational requirements reduced to allow more workforce at the federal and provincial levels to help us do what we do best. It’s going to take time but we are hoping for a breakthrough soon.
	We were able to get our dynamic ODA president Dr. Lisa Bentley to give us an update on ODA's involvement in the Federal dental plan and their interaction with the RCDSO for the upcoming Spring Business Meeting on Thursday, March 2, 2023. 	Dr. Laurie Houston is very passionate about starting a green initiative for the dental and orthodontic industry. She will update us at the Spring Business Meeting. Let’s go green!
	Dr. Drew Smith will be receiving the "Distinguished Service Award" at the Spring Business Meeting. Please join us in person to congratulate Drew. Register here.
	As is a tradition, OAO Spring Business Meeting precedes the TOC (Toronto Orthodontic Club) Meeting on Clear Aligners Symposium which will be held on Friday, March 3rd at the Westin Harbour Hotel in Downtown Toronto. Register here at TOClub.ca
